Trip down to Bras Basah.Bugis

From http://www.mysingaporetravel.com/bras-basah-mrt-station-making-your-journey-easier.html

After all the research, I took a trip down to Bras Basah.Bugis on a Saturday morning for my individual field trip assignment.  I have not been to Bras Basah.Bugis since a long time ago and I wonder how it actually look like now. Not that I still remember how it looks like last time.

When I took the first step into Bras Basah.Bugis, the atmosphere itself was overwhelming. Busy streets filled with traffics and people in the district was moving at a very fast pace. However, it was not any different from the usual surrounding I live in. Singapore is a busy city after all. There are lots of SMU buildings surrounding the whole BBB.

What I found interesting about BBB is that the shops of the BBB is lined up down the alley like the olden day and there is also an alley where there is graffiti on the wall. It is pretty rare to find such graffiti especially in Singapore where vandalizing is illegal. Graffiti itself is also a form of art. Having an alley filled with graffiti really brings out the art and culture of BBB and make it shine even brighter. Now I know why BBB is an art and culture district.

Here are one of the photo of me and my friends at the wall. (Afterall, who would resist not taking a photo with such graffiti. This is the time to show how fierce I am. Nah, just kidding.)

Few things I dislike about the district is that there are too many roads and traffics. This cause the district to seems more modernise as compared to being more of a heritage. The huge amount of cars passing by ruin the atmosphere of arts and culture. There are also no food court available when I went as the food republic there was renovating. This would also mean that the food expenses would be quite high. Furthermore, other than the museums, I feel that the district can still reach out to more people of different age groups to get them to join in to appreciate the arts and culture of different places. For example, the district could input interactions that catered more to the young children at age 10 below.

Hoping to find something different, I went to various attraction at Bras Basah.Bugis. The district itself consist of National monuments such as the Armenian church of St Gregory the Illuminator, the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd and the Central Fire Station on Hill Street, Maghain Aboth Synagogue as well as museums such as National Museum of Singapore, the Singapore Art Museum, the Peranakan Museum and the Singapore Philatelic Museum.

On that day itself, I could not possibly visit all the attractions available. Hence I chose a few that interests me the most which are the National Museum of Singapore, the Singapore Art Museum and the Peranakan Museum. I would like to dedicate one post to each of the Museum, thus, I would end this post here.

Till next time where I would bring you through the Museums. Ciao!
